This is an exciting opportunity to join what will be a growth area of engineering critical to our corporate future; this role will involve collaborative research with key leading UK universities and external partners. Additionally, the role will support the electrification teams in the delivery of new electric vehicle programmes. Key accountabilities and responsibilities: The role is based in the Battery Commodity Concepts team co-located with University of Warwick as part of the overall Powertrain electrified engineering group. Reporting to the Battery Commodity Concepts Manager the Engineer would be responsible for: • Work with optimised materials to achieve best in class solutions. • Lead next generation battery pack materials projects with research orgs • Ensure robust plans are in place that achieves Programme milestones and targets (Quality, Cost, Functionality, Weight, and timing). • Develop and release Engineering Specifications. • Drive the resolution of cross functional technical / manufacturing issues using an Global 8D process. • Lead suppliers through concept design phase, procurement of prototypes & tooling and ensure components perform to requirements. • Develop optimum manufacturing solutions for quality and takt time including NDT. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Essential: Degree in relevant engineering discipline with materials knowledge and their applications Experience of defining and/ or using appropriate analysis tools to optimise and verify mechanical and structural properties such that you can define the requirements / analysis A knowledge of typical BEV and PHEV battery system solutions and technologies especially with regard to materials selection, joining methods and test DoE Experience of Technology Creation and Development System (TCDS) or equivalent Experience of typical manufacturing solutions and implications of manufacturing process on design Strong people skills and the ability to work individually and in a cross functional team Excellent communication and presentation skills Experience of meeting deadlines Working Knowledge of Problem Resolution Techniques e.g. 8D The ability to make effective decisions in the best interest of the business and customer Desirable: Ability to use CAE tools such as MATLAB and CATIA Understanding of typical battery characteristics - cell types, electrical configuration, cell mounting limitations, cooling and heating requirements, venting Understanding of regulatory needs applicable to BEV and PHEV solutions.
