We have been a Preferred Supplier to this broadcasting company for over 3 years and have been asked to recruit a Linux Systems Administrator. They have a number of substantial projects on the go which are supported by the development of the Linux based operations (DevOps) environment. There is also the production support / Linux Administration Team you would work closely with. Our client has identified the need for a specific Linux Systems Administrator to work on the designing, delivering, maintaining and management of the Infrastructure compute and storage platforms for my client globally.
This is a new role within the team and you will have a great deal of scope to make it your own creating and implementing new ideas and processes both internally and cross-department.
Position Summary
You will be reporting to the Infrastructure Platforms Manager within clients Service Area. You will develop strong relationships with fellow Systems Administrators, other technical specialists and the operational support teams.
Within the IT Infrastructure Team, the Platforms Team is responsible for designing, delivering, maintaining and managing the Infrastructure compute and storage platforms for my client globally. The compute platform consists of x86 server hardware, VMware vSphere virtualization and Linux. Additional tools including Puppet, Foreman, and Nagios are used to provide a high level of automation and agility.
Experience & Knowledge
The post-holder must have:
• Substantial experience of designing, building, and supporting complex Linux based systems in a fast paced commercial environment.
• Substantial experience of providing 3rd line operation support in a 24x7 Environment.
• Substantial experience of systems automation, configuration management, and automated server builds, monitoring tools. Specifically Puppet and Foreman.
• In-depth knowledge of standard Linux tools, scripting languages (Ruby, Bash, Perl, or Python)
• Good understanding and hands-on experience of VMware vSphere.
• Rigorous and disciplined approach to documentation, and knowledge transfer.
• Experience of LDAP, Kerberos and Linux Active Directory integration.
• Experience of setting up, configuring and maintaining a range of common Linux/Unix server applications, particularly Apache, Samba, Nagios, Drupal, NginX, Tomcat and JBoss.
• Understanding of IP networking and common protocols such as FTP, HTTP and SSH, and understanding of network security practices including the use of VPNs, ACLs and firewalls.
Additional desirable skills for post-holder:
• Knowledge & experience of SAN technologies; StorNext, iSCSI and Fibre Channel
• Knowledge of the Redhat Katello stack including Pulp repository management.
• Knowledge & experience of using Amazon Web Services
• Knowledge & Experience of Openstack, Docker and related technologies.
• Some knowledge of project work and methodologies, ideally gained through involvement in complex high profile projects in the broadcast sector.
• Ability to process and present complex statistical data in a clear and concise fashion for Senior Management consumption.
