Salary: £43,292 to £47,380 plus a location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £43,292 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £47,380 will be via incremental progression.

Protecting the country is a job that calls for all kinds of skills. If you have tech and engineering expertise, join us as an Operational Network Manager and support crucial Counter Terrorism (CT) surveillance operations.

This is a chance to make the most of your wide-ranging engineering knowledge in a vital and varied role. As Operational Network Manager, you'll provide the technology that the CT network needs for surveillance and covert activities. This could cover everything from audio, video and GPS, to mobile phone networks. And you could be working out in the field, helping the team in difficult environments, or based in our workshop.

To support CT teams, you may be required to work outside office hours, and possibly at short notice. You'll also be part on an on-call rota, ready to respond to urgent requests. When out in the field, you'll need to be professional with the public and maintain confidentiality, which means you'll need a blend of technical and people skills.

On the technical side, we're looking for an HND/HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, plus recognised engineering training. Your knowledge should cover a broad range of engineering areas such as:

• Cisco networking

• IT software and hardware
• Video and audio standards and compression techniques, video and audio recording including NVR's and mass storage of data, video monitoring systems
• Transmission systems including frequency spectrum, modulation methods, antennas, IP radio, mobile phone networks (2G, 3G, 4G)
• Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Telecommunications or data-communications
• RF Engineering - transmission equipment
• IT software and hardware
• IP networks and wireless links
• Video and audio standards and compression techniques, video and audio recording including NVR's and mass storage of data, video monitoring systems.

Job Role

This position is within the SO15 - CASU- Technical Operations - Network Engineer.

CASU provides surveillance support to CT operations and provides staff to the Counter Terrorism Operations Room and the deployment of covert assets-The role of CASU Tech Ops Network Engineer is to oversee and run the SO15 network in support of the CT Network.

The role requires - To provide technical support by means of a working knowledge of a broad range of engineering subjects including: Cisco and Juniper networking, Virtualization, IT software and hardware; video and audio standards and compression techniques, video and audio recording including NVR's and mass storage of data, video monitoring systems; transmission systems including frequency spectrum, modulation methods, antennas, IP radio, mobile phone networks (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G); and electrical and electronic principles.

You will be required to participate in an 'on call' rota in order to provide an operational response capability, in accordance with MPS staff terms and conditions and allowances.

You will be required to work unsociable hours on occasion, possibly at short notice.

You will sometimes be required to work in difficult and challenging environments, subject to the appropriate risk assessment process and mitigation measures being put in place.

The role sometimes requires interaction with members of the public, in a professional manner, whilst maintaining confidentiality in sensitive environments.

You will be expected to keep abreast of developments in relevant technologies, e.g. via trade journals, exhibitions, seminars etc., and to identify alternative equipment options and improvements - in order to enhance our operational capabilities.

You will be required to drive MPS vehicles.

The role requires working with sensitive and classified information, in a covert environment.

The work is varied and could include deploying operationally where needed in and around London and surrounding areas

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
