Senior Founding Engineer - AI Learning Platform
SalesAPE group.
Location: Hybrid (UK preferred) Reporting to: Head of Engineering Key Partners: Kim Faura (Product Lead) & Pravin Paratey (Head of Engineering) The Split: 80% Deep Building & Coding 20% Technical Leadership & Team Shielding About SalesAPE & Abi We are building what we believe will become the operating system for millions of small businesses. Today, we have one main product brand - SalesApe, which helps businesses automate customer conversations, qualify incoming leads, and convert more sales. Alongside this, we are building Self-Serve Abi (Artificial Business Intelligence) - a natural language AI business partner that allows business owners to create, operate, and grow their businesses simply by talking to an AI. But our long-term vision goes far beyond individual AI agents. We believe the next generation of software will continuously learn from the outcomes it creates. Every customer interaction, recommendation, experiment, and business outcome should make the platform smarter for the next customer. To achieve that, we're looking for a Senior Founding Engineer to build the core intellectual property that ties these products together: our unified, self-improving Learning Platform. The Mission Your mission is to architect and build the intelligence layer that sits behind both SalesApe and Self-Serve Abi. This platform will capture business events, measure outcomes, identify patterns, and continuously improve the recommendations our AI makes. Rather than simply orchestrating existing foundational models, you will build a self-improving recommendation and learning engine that compounds over time. Imagine millions of businesses collectively teaching the platform: which sales techniques convert best, which marketing campaigns actually work, and which onboarding journeys reduce churn. Every customer benefits from the learnings generated by every other customer, strictly preserving privacy and security. This is not a theoretical academic exercise. To prove the value of this platform early, you will anchor the initial learning loops onto the rich data and events we already generate, directly targeting the immediate onboarding and retention challenges we're chasing right now. This ensures the learning platform drives immediate product value while we build toward the multi-year strategic defensibility moat we need ahead of our Series B. What This Role Actually Is (and Isn't) We are not looking for an "ivory tower" architect or a hands-off engineering manager. We need a highly skilled, pragmatic engineer who is still deeply in love with writing code and shipping systems. The role splits into two primary responsibilities: 80% Engineering & Building: You will spend the vast majority of your time architecting, writing, and shipping production-ready code. You will inherit a seeded prototype of our knowledge layer and harden it into a robust, scalable, and resilient production platform. 20% Technical Leadership & Shielding: You will partner closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ruthlessly prioritize the technical roadmap. You will guide other engineers on architectural standards and act as a protective buffer - keeping them safe from the daily "noise" of a fast-growing startup so they can focus on deep, uninterrupted builder mode. What You'll Build You will design, own, and scale the architecture behind a continuously learning platform, including: Event collection architecture & customer interaction pipelines to capture rich interaction logs cleanly. Outcome measurement frameworks to tie AI suggestions to actual business outcomes (sales, retention, clicks). Recommendation & feedback loops that let the AI automatically improve its behavioral models based on real evidence. Knowledge graphs, vector databases, and memory/retrieval systems that serve as our persistent cross-product intelligence. Experimentation infrastructure & feature stores to run secure experiments and manage features efficiently. Evaluation frameworks to continuously benchmark and validate prompt and model improvements. What Success Looks Like Within 12 months, you will have shifted us from manual prompt tuning to an automated, compounding loop of intelligence: Structured Learning: Every customer interaction automatically translates into structured, usable learning data. Measurable Performance: Every single AI recommendation can be tracked and measured against real-world business outcomes. Compounding Defensibility: Every experiment run by one customer improves future recommendations for all other customers, safely and securely. Opinionated AI: Our AI agents become increasingly opinionated, moving beyond basic prompt rules to act on real-world evidence of what works. Autonomous Improvement: The platform improves continuously over time without requiring manual developer intervention. Who We're Looking For We value mindset over specific job titles. You are an exceptional systems thinker who thinks in feedback loops rather than simple product features. You naturally ask yourself: "How does this system get smarter every day?" Ideal candidates bring experience in: Distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and large-scale event processing. Data engineering, stream processing, feature stores, and robust data modeling. Graph databases (knowledge graphs) and vector databases for retrieval and memory systems. Python, TypeScript, SQL, and modern cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure). Recommendation engines, personalization platforms, or reinforcement learning pipelines. Designing LLM application architectures and robust AI evaluation frameworks (prior GenAI experience is highly beneficial but not strictly mandatory). Our Culture We are a lean, ambitious team that values builders who think deeply but move fast. Our core engineering values are: Curiosity over Certainty: We ask "how does the system get smarter?" rather than assuming we have all the answers. First-Principles Thinking: We break complex systems down to their fundamental truths to build elegant, novel solutions. Shipping over Perfection: We believe working software in production teaches us infinitely more than beautiful designs on a whiteboard. Long-term Compounding over Short-term Optimization: We design systems that build value over years, not just weeks. Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: We debate fiercely based on data, but commit fully once a direction is set. Intellectual Honesty & Ownership: We own our mistakes, speak truth to data, and take absolute responsibility for our outcomes. The Opportunity If successful, your work won't just improve an AI product - you will help build a completely new category of business software, one that naturally gains a massive competitive advantage with every company it serves. The learning platform you create will become the foundation of one of the world's most valuable, proprietary datasets on how small businesses successfully operate, grow, and scale. This is a rare opportunity to join as a founding engineer, write a massive amount of core infrastructure, and shape the strategic technical direction of a company on a high-growth trajectory. Our Interview Process We respect your time. Rather than standard algorithm puzzles, we focus on practical systems thinking and collaborative design: Initial Conversation: A casual talk with Kim (Product Lead) and Pravin (Head of Engineering) to align on vision, culture, and goals. Architecture Design Exercise: A collaborative, whiteboard-style session focused on designing a real-world learning loop. Technical Workshop: Hands-on programming and collaboration with our core engineering team. Leadership Interview & Strategy Discussion: A deep-dive discussion on product strategy, team dynamic, and long-term vision.

Senior Software Engineer Engineering London On-site
Wayfindi
we make it easy for developers and AIs to build on health data. hundreds of wearables, sensors, labs, and health apps - connected, normalized, and made intelligent through a single platform. 1,000s of developers and AI labs build on Terra today. we process 15+ billion health data events per year. and we are just getting started. the health OS health data is fragmented. every device, every app, every sensor speaks a different language. we built the health OS to solve that - a full-stack platform that turns raw, messy, siloed health data into something developers and AIs can reason over, build on, and ship with. Terra was founded in 2021 and operates from London, San Francisco, and South Korea. we are funded by Y Combinator (W21), General Catalyst, Samsung NEXT, NEXT Ventures, and many of the world's finest investors. we are a team of engineers, researchers, builders, and designers. we hire people who get things done, think from first principles, and learn ferociously. we default to yes. we ship fast. we hack. we build. we don't do bureaucracy. You will own and ship core platform systems that power how health data flows through Terra - from upstream data suppliers (wearables, health apps, sensors) into our unified schema, and out to downstream developers and AI consumers via our REST API, Streaming API, and webhooks. This is not a maintenance role. You will build new data connectors, scale real-time streaming pipelines, harden our authentication layer, and design the systems that handle millions of API calls per day. You will work across the entire stack - from low-level data ingestion to developer-facing API surfaces. You will ship fast, iterate through feedback loops, and think in first principles. We don't have layers of process. We have ownership and velocity. What You Will Build Unified API & Data Normalisation:Design and extend the systems that ingest raw health data from 100+ upstream providers (Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, Apple Health, Google Fit, Withings, etc.) and normalise it into Terra's standardised schema - consistent today, consistent next year. Upstream Data Supplier Connector:Architect and build Terra's new upstream connector capability, allowing data suppliers to push data directly into the platform. Define ingestion contracts, enforce data quality SLAs, and ensure schema compliance. Streaming API:Scale our real-time streaming infrastructure for live sensor data (heart rate, steps, distance) from Apple Watch and BLE/ANT+ devices via websocket listeners. Sub-second latency matters here. Authentication & Developer Experience:Own the authentication layer for both upstream suppliers and downstream developers. Build the OAuth flows, API key management, and RBAC + least privilege access controls that keep 1,000+ developers secure. Webhooks & Event Delivery:Design and harden the webhook delivery system that pushes health data events to downstream consumers. Guaranteed delivery. Retry logic. At-scale. Teams API:Contribute to our Teams API - enabling coaches, researchers, and organisations to aggregate and analyse group data across athletes, patients, and study participants. Health Scores & Derived Data:Build the backend systems that transform raw health metrics into validated scores (recovery, strain, stress, immunity) backed by research. Infrastructure & Reliability:Maintain 99.5%+ uptime on a platform that processes billions of events. Design for fault tolerance, observability, and horizontal scale What We Are Looking For 5+ years of production backend engineering. You have shipped systems that handle real traffic at scale. Not toy projects - real, battle-tested infrastructure. Deep API design experience. You've built REST APIs consumed by external developers. You understand versioning, rate limiting, pagination, error handling, and what it takes to make a developer love your API. Strong with distributed systems.Message queues, event-driven architectures, stream processing, data pipelines - you've built and operated them. Proficiency in Python and/or Go.Our stack is opinionated. You should be deeply fluent in at least one. Database expertise.PostgreSQL, Redis, time-series stores. You know when to use what and how to make it fast. Cloud-native mindset.AWS/GCP. Containers. CI/CD. Infrastructure as code. You don't wait for DevOps - you are DevOps. Security-first thinking.Encryption in transit and at rest (TLS 1.2+, AES-256). Data minimisation. GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2 are not afterthoughts - they're built in from the start. Autonomous and fast. You don't need to be told what to do. You see the problem, you own it, you ship the fix. High velocity, high standards. You are an athlete. You train, you compete, you push limits - or at the very least, you are obsessed with quantifying your own data. The discipline, ambition, and courage it takes to show up every day and get better is the same energy we run on. If you understand the data because you live it, you'll build a better product. How we work We are a high-velocity team. We think in first principles, build via feedback loops, and default to "yes." When someone says something is hard, we focus on how to build it, not whether to. Skin in the Game.Everyone has equity. Everyone has stake. Your work directly moves the platform. Deep Work.We protect focus time. No meeting culture. We ship, not talk. Antifragile. We get stronger from chaos. Incidents make us better. Feedback makes us faster. Resourceful. We don't wait for perfect conditions. We build with what we have and iterate relentlessly. Hackers. We've battled at HackMIT, TreeHacks, and Harvard Hack. We build because we can't stop building. By submitting this application, I agree that my personal data will be collected, processed, and retained by the company solely for the purposes of managing and assessing my candidacy.

Technical Solutions Architect
Zippd Manchester, Lancashire
Company: Zippd Location: Manchester City Centre, UK (100% Onsite) Job Type: Full-time Visa Status: No sponsorships available (Must have the right to work in the UK) 1. The Role Overview Zippd is a fast-moving, technology-first logistics platform. We are building the routing engines, warehouse management systems (WMS), and APIs that power the next generation of urban delivery. We are looking for a hands on Technical Solutions Architect to act as the critical bridge between our operations, our clients, our engineering team, and our wider business. You will own the technical design of new features end to end - from gathering requirements with non technical stakeholders, through architecting the right solution against our existing platform, all the way to presenting it back to both the engineering team and senior leadership for sign off. This is not a pure documentation role. You will be expected to have a programmer's instinct, an architect's eye for trade offs, and a consultant's ability to communicate. You'll also spend around 20% of your time acting as the technical face of Zippd, supporting our retail partners as they integrate into our API ecosystem. Please Note: This is a strictly 100% onsite role based in our Manchester office. 2. Core Responsibilities Technical Solution Architecture & Technical Design (45%) Translate business and operational requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions that fit cleanly into our existing platform. Design microservice architectures, API contracts, database schemas, and integration patterns that align with our engineering principles. Make pragmatic build vs buy vs integrate decisions, considering cost, time, and long term maintainability. Produce high quality sequence diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), system context diagrams, and API data flow charts. Write air tight technical specifications in Confluence so our engineering team (Laravel / MySQL / OSRM / AWS) knows exactly what to build without ambiguity. Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Gathering (25%) Run requirements sessions with non technical stakeholders - operations managers, commercial teams, the CEO, and the CTO. Convert ambiguous business problems into clearly scoped technical solutions. Present proposed solutions back to both the engineering team and senior leadership, defending the design and adapting based on feedback. Act as the trusted technical voice in the room when business and engineering disagree. Engineering Support & Live Issue Triage (10%) Provide ongoing support to the engineering team throughout build - clarifying intent, answering questions, and unblocking decisions. Act as second line technical support for complex production issues, working alongside engineering to diagnose and resolve. Client Integration Support (20%) Act as the technical point of contact for external retailers and partners onboarding onto the Zippd platform. Support clients in understanding and consuming our REST APIs and webhooks. Troubleshoot integration issues, test API payloads, and ensure a smooth technical handover before clients go into live production. 3. Required Technical Background This role is for someone with real engineering DNA- not a pure business analyst with diagramming skills. You must bring: Programming background: A previous career as a developer (Laravel/PHP, Python, Node.js, Go, or similar). You don't need to write production code daily here, but you must be able to read a pull request, sketch a working algorithm on a whiteboard, and have an opinion on code quality. Microservice architecture experience: Hands on experience designing or working in microservice ecosystems - service boundaries, inter service communication, event driven patterns, queue systems (Redis, SQS, RabbitMQ), and the trade offs vs monoliths. Database design: Strong SQL fundamentals. You can design a normalised relational schema from scratch, understand indexing strategies, and know when to break the rules (denormalisation, caching, read replicas). NoSQL exposure is a plus. AWS experience: Practical knowledge of core AWS services - EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, CloudWatch. You should be able to design a cost effective, scalable AWS architecture and explain why you chose each service. API design: Deep understanding of REST principles, JSON payloads, webhooks, OAuth/JWT authentication, rate limiting, versioning, and idempotency. Diagramming & Documentation: Expert level in Lucidchart, Draw.io, Miro, or similar. Proven experience writing technical specs in Confluence and tracking work through Jira. System state design: You can confidently model complex state machines (e.g. mapping how an order transitions from Pending Allocated In Transit Delivered, including all the failure paths in between). 4. The Profile We Are Looking For You are a translator with engineering credibility: You can listen to an operations manager talk about warehouse chaos and translate it into a microservice design, an ERD, and a clean Confluence page that the dev team can build from. You can also defend that design when challenged. You are pragmatic, not academic: You understand that perfect architecture doesn't exist - only architecture that ships and supports the business. You make sensible trade offs and explain them clearly. You are detail obsessed: You do not leave edge cases to chance. When you write a spec, the dev team rarely has to ask "what happens if this fails?" You are an exceptional communicator: You possess crystal clear written and spoken English. You can comfortably present to the CEO one hour and pair with a senior engineer the next. You are commercially aware: You understand that every technical decision has a business cost. You don't propose solutions in isolation - you weigh effort, value, and risk. You are ready to be in the room: You thrive in a fast paced, in person environment. (Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.) 5. What We Offer A pivotal role at the heart of a fast growing logistics technology business Genuine ownership of the technical direction of major platform features Direct exposure to the CTO, CEO, and senior leadership A modern tech stack (Laravel, MySQL, OSRM, AWS) and the freedom to influence its direction A competitive salary, negotiable based on experience Manchester city centre office, with the team in the room every day
