Senior Optical Communications Engineer
OLIX
About OLIX AI is growing faster than any technology in history and the explosion in demand has created a massive infrastructure gap; we can no longer build chips or power stations fast enough to keep up. The industry is still leaning on a ten-year-old hardware blueprint that has reached its limit. A new paradigm that is faster and more efficient will be the biggest economic opportunity of the next century and create the most important company of the next decade. OLIX is building this next paradigm; the Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU) achieves performance and energy efficiency that is impossible to match from existing chips. The Role: OLIX is developing next-generation optical interconnect architectures for AI data centers, including chip-to-chip, inter-tray, intra-tray, and rack-to-rack optical links. We are seeking Principal and Staff Optical Interconnect Engineers with deep experience in optical communications and co-packaged optics (CPO) to help design and deliver scalable, high-bandwidth interconnect systems. The candidate will be joining a dynamic fast paced team here intent on breaking all the rules and old paradigms. This optics role sits at the intersection of optics, ASICs, high-speed electronics, packaging, and algorithms. You will work on tightly integrated electro-optic systems optimized for bandwidth density, ultra-low latency, power efficiency, thermal performance, reliability, and high-volume manufacturability. We are looking for an optical engineer who is equally comfortable discussing link budgets and Maxwell's equations and physically aligning fiber arrays. Someone who moves fluidly between simulation, lab validation, and manufacturing constraints. A builder who enjoys solving real implementation problems, and not just designing on paper. A technical leader who stays close to the details. We are hiring at both Senior and Staff levels as we build a world-class optical systems team. Responsibilities Optical Interconnect & CPO Architecture Define high-bandwidth optical interconnect systems spanning 1. In-tray (chip-to-chip), 2. Intra-tray, and 3. Rack-to-rack links. Contribute to co-packaged optics (CPO) architectures integrating photonics intimately to high-performance ASICs for optimized latency and connectivity. Develop scalable link strategies across fiber, integrated waveguides, and planar-light-wave circuits (PLC) Own system-level link budgets including insertion loss, coupling loss, bandwidth, BER, power, and thermal margins and requirements for lasers and receivers. Balance bandwidth density, power consumption, reliability, and serviceability constraints. Co-Design Collaborate closely with opto-mechanical, ASIC, mixed-signal, RF, and DSP teams on electro-optic interface definitions Participate in co-optimization of Modulation formats, Equalization strategies, Laser integration approaches, Driver and Receiver architectures Contribute to system modeling across high-speed VCSELs, optics, detectors, electrical channels, packaging, and signal processing layers Analyze trade-offs between optical reach, power budget, and electronic complexity Familiar with state-of-the art rapid optical prototyping tools, especially as it pertains to PLCs and micro-optics. Fiber, Waveguides & PLC Systems Design and optimize high-density fiber-optic interconnects Develop and analyze integrated waveguide-based links Design Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLC) for routing, splitting, tapping, multiplexing, in/out coupling, and signal distribution. Optimize fiber-to-waveguide and fiber-to-package coupling strategies for both multimode and single mode waveguides. Address packaging constraints including alignment tolerances and connector strategies CPO Packaging, Thermal & Reliability Considerations Contribute to on-package and near-package photonic integration strategies Evaluate thermal interactions between ASICs and photonic devices Address serviceability, repairability, and field-replaceability trade-offs in CPO architectures Drive tolerance and reliability analysis for high-density optical packaging Partner with mechanical and thermal teams to ensure robust system integration High-Speed Validation & Production Readiness Define validation strategies for Tbps-class optical links based on various multiplexing schemes (spatial, wavelength, modulation) Analyze insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk, bandwidth, and noise performance Correlate system simulations with lab and pre-production results Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) for co-packaged and high-density optical assemblies Support pilot builds and production ramp, resolving yield and variability issues Skills & Experience PhD in Optics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with significant industry experience, or Master's degree with 6-10+ years of relevant industry experience Demonstrated experience shipping optical communication systems into production Experience with high-speed optical communication systems (telecom or datacom) Familiarity with co-packaged optics (CPO) or on and near-package photonic integration Experience with high-bandwidth transmit/receive architectures Understanding of link budgets, BER performance, and noise mechanisms in dense environments Strong background in Fiber optics, Integrated waveguides, Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLC), and free-space optics Experience with high-density coupling strategies Familiarity with photonic packaging challenges at scale Experience collaborating across optics, ASIC, RF, DSP, and packaging domains Ability to reason about trade-offs across optical, electrical, and algorithmic layers Strong system-level modeling skills Experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optical systems Understanding of tolerance-driven yield impacts Experience working with foundries, OSATs, or contract manufacturers Exposure to hyperscale data center reliability requirements is a plus Compensation & Equity Competitive Salary: £162,000 to £198,000 commensurate with your experience, skills, and location. Equity & Ownership: Meaningful stock options. You're not just joining the mission; you're owning a piece of it. Proximity Bonus: We value your time. To minimise your commute and maximise your life, we offer a £24k annual Living-Local Bonus if your residence is within 20 minutes of the office. Health & Wellbeing Premium Healthcare: Comprehensive BUPA medical and dental cover, including Medical History Disregarded (MHD), for complete peace of mind. Time Off: 25 days of annual leave, plus all UK bank holidays. The Workspace & Tech Elite Hardware: M4 Macs come as standard, with M4 Pro upgrades for our engineering team. We will provide whatever you need to do your best work. Optimal Environment: High-spec noise-cancelling headphones and a fully ergonomic workstation designed for deep focus. Rapid Prototyping: Access to our high-performance 3D printing lab for work, experimentation, and personal creative projects. Life at the Office Chef-prepared meals: if you need to work late. Caffeine on Us: We've got you covered with a tab at our favourite local coffee shop. Relocation & Global Mobility Visa Sponsorship: We hire the best in the world. We offer full UK and international visa sponsorship. Seamless Relocation: Whether you're moving across the country or across the globe, our dedicated relocation partner provides funding and concierge support to get you settled. Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates' eligibility to work at OLIX depends on their most recent citizenship or permanent residency status. We are generally unable to consider applicants whose most recent citizenship or permanent residence is in certain restricted countries (currently including Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Venezuela). Applicants who have subsequently obtained citizenship or permanent residency in another country not subject to these restrictions may still be eligible.

The Role We are hiring a Senior AI Solutions Engineer to help every team at Plentific do more, do better, and do faster with AI. The aim is to automate repetitive work, raise the quality of output, and shorten cycle times. You will work alongside subject matter experts in sales, marketing, operations, customer support, customer success, finance, legal, HR, and talent acquisition. You will also partner with our product managers and the technical product managers leading our integrations, automations, and client API. This is a hybrid role. You are part technical (software engineer, AI builder, integrations specialist) and part advisory (process consultant, product manager, project manager, and internal change management lead). Strong written and verbal communication is essential. You will spend a significant share of your time helping non technical colleagues become confident users of AI themselves. You will be one of the early hires in this function and will help define how Plentific adopts AI internally over the next several years. Key Responsibilities Identify and prioritise opportunities Work with each business team to understand workflows, pain points, and bottlenecks. Identify high leverage opportunities for AI and automation based on business value, feasibility, and risk. Use a current understanding of agentic AI and automation capabilities to propose creative redesigns of workflows the business has been working around for years. Translate ambiguous problems into clearly scoped use cases, proofs of concept, and delivery plans. Design and deliver solutions Build AI and automation solutions using tools such as n8n, Tray.io, Workato, Zapier, Claude Code, and direct LLM APIs. Integrate with systems including Slack, Google Workspace, NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot, and the other tools used across the business. Develop robust workflows and integrations with appropriate logging, retries, monitoring, evaluations, and guardrails. Prototype quickly, validate with users, and productionise solutions that prove their value. Document solutions clearly so they can be maintained, extended, or handed over where appropriate. Coordinate with product managers and technical product managers when an automation touches platform systems, integrations, or the client API. Drive adoption and build capability Drive adoption of every solution you ship: work alongside end users until they trust and own the tool, gather feedback, and iterate until usage sticks. Run internal training, workshops, and office hours sessions to raise AI literacy across the company. Help colleagues develop their own fluency with AI tools, beyond the specific solutions you build for them. Maintain Plentific's internal AI tool catalogue, identifying tools worth bringing in and advising on those that should be retired. Establish standards and manage risk Define reusable patterns, components, and templates to make future solutions faster and cheaper to deliver. Apply strong judgement around data handling, permissions, privacy, and security. Work with Security, Legal, and Privacy teams on areas such as PII minimisation, auditability, RBAC, and guardrails for autonomous behaviour. Measure outcomes such as time saved, quality improvement, volume unlocked, adoption, and throughput. Review solutions critically and retire or redesign those that do not deliver meaningful value. Requirements Core requirements Demonstrable experience shipping production AI or automation solutions that non technical users have actually adopted and continued to use. Hands on fluency in low code automation and integration platforms such as n8n, Tray.io, Workato, or Zapier, and in agentic patterns using LLM APIs from Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar. Confident hands on coding in Python and TypeScript, comfortable building REST and webhook integrations, testing APIs (for example with Postman), and working with version control and basic CI/CD. Working knowledge of the SaaS tools that a modern technology business runs on, including ERP (NetSuite or comparable), CRM, support platforms, finance tooling, marketing automation, and the integrations between them. Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical trade offs to a Finance Manager and to debug a prompt failure with an engineer in the same afternoon. A track record of running internal enablement (training, workshops, documentation, and office hours) that has measurably increased adoption of new tooling. Sound judgement around data access, PII handling, RBAC, and the security implications of letting AI systems act autonomously. Preferred experience Familiarity with agentic patterns (MCP, RAG, evaluation frameworks) and the maturity to know when a simpler approach beats a more sophisticated one. Experience in a scale up, SaaS, or other fast moving technology environment. Experience partnering with operational, commercial, or corporate functions rather than working only with engineering teams. Platform Integration Engineer
The OLIX Decode Accelerator 1 (DX-1) is the first accelerator architected specifically for decode. Rack-scale co-design of logic, data movement, packaging, optics and interconnect enables a step change in system level performance. Role As Software Platform Integration Engineer, you will be the technical authority on how OLIX systems operate as hyperscale AI infrastructure - spanning cluster orchestration, platform management, networking, and field engineering. We are looking for an experienced principal-level engineer who will shape OLIX's direction through systems thinking and technical depth. You will partner closely with the Software Engineering Director, Platform Integration to set the technical direction for the organisation, define architectural standards, and make the hard technical calls across the platform stack. You bring rare depth across the full stack, the judgment to know what matters and why, and the influence to drive alignment across engineering without relying on authority. Responsibilities Shape the technical vision. Partnering with the Software Engineering Director to set long-term technical direction across cluster orchestration, fleet management, networking, and deployment - and own the architectural integrity of that vision across the full platform lifecycle. Translate strategy into architecture. Work with the Director and cross-functional partners to turn long-term business direction into concrete architectural priorities, and identify where technical investments will have the highest leverage. Set the architectural bar. Define the principles, interface contracts, and standards the organisation builds to - across scheduling, fleet operations, ingress/egress, and platform management - and ensure they hold across teams. Make the hard calls. Own the technical decision-making across the platform stack: orchestration and scheduling architecture, fleet management systems, networking design, and deployment strategy. Lead through influence. Drive alignment across teams without direct authority - through rigour, clarity, and the quality of your technical thinking. Raise the technical ceiling. Mentor and stretch senior engineers across the organisation - not as a manager, but as a technical leader who holds the bar high and helps others reach it. Skills & Experience Proven track record delivering large-scale distributed infrastructure or platform architecture that has shipped, across multiple teams in fast-moving environments. Deep expertise in distributed systems, cluster orchestration, networking, and fleet operations - with hands-on experience designing and scaling systems at hyperscale. Track record driving technical outcomes in high-reliability production environments: SLOs, observability, incident management, and security at scale. Full lifecycle experience - from early architecture through to production operations and long-tail reliability. Outstanding technical communicator - you articulate architectural decisions clearly to engineers, managers, and senior leadership alike, and write design thinking that becomes the organisational reference point. Compensation & Equity Competitive Salary, commensurate with your experience, skills, and location.

AI Engineer (Catalyst)
Fifth Dimension AI
About Us Fifth Dimension is the most prominent AI company in real estate in the world, bringing vibe working to document-heavy industries . We work with real estate businesses in the US, EU and APAC, automating complex tasks, extracting valuable insights from documents, and empowering professionals to focus on high-impact work. Our AI workspace transforms how large investment managers and developers handle leases, development documents, and investment decisions. We're a London, New York and Singapore based startup with an ample runway, backed by Tier 1 European and American investors. Our founders, Johnny Morris and Dr. Kate Jarvis bring a powerful blend of expertise (and spice ️): Johnny has 17+ years applying data and analytics to Real Estate, while Kate holds a Stanford PhD and 12 years of executive experience across Silicon Valley and London startups. At Fifth Dimension, we're demanding yet encouraging, valuing experimentation and kind challenges. Our company values, Own It, Ship It, and Don't Be Boring, drive us to deliver exceptional results while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. The Challenge It's 9 AM on a Monday. You've already got a couple of AI-generated PRs from the weekend open for review - experiments you kicked off with Claude Code on Friday that ran overnight. By 10:30, the reviews are in and you're iterating. By lunch, one feature is in staging with tests. After a quick review with a staff engineer who raises an edge case you hadn't considered, you ship v2 by 3 PM. By the end of day, real customers are using it-and you're already looking at the eval results to figure out what v3 needs. On Tuesday, you sit with one of our Solutions Engineers and a Customer Success Manager to understand why a major asset manager's lease analysis is hitting a wall. By Wednesday, you're pairing with a principal engineer to redesign the approach - they bring deep knowledge of how commercial real estate documents actually work, you bring the speed to prototype three different solutions in Claude Code before lunch. You run evals against your test suite, pick the winner, and ship it. On Thursday, you're with the PM refining the intelligence platform's UI based on what the usage data told you. On Friday, you demo everything you shipped that week. It's more than most teams ship in a sprint. That's a normal week here. And next month, you might be doing it from our New York office, or from Singapore. About You You're an AI-first engineer. While others debate whether AI tools are ready, you've been shipping with them for months, maybe years. Claude Code and Codex aren't novelties to you; they're how you work. You're outcome-obsessed and customer-obsessed: you don't just build features, you solve problems for real people and measure whether it actually worked. You've already figured out that the combination of strong fundamentals, AI-augmented development, and relentless focus on customer outcomes lets you move at a pace that surprises people. You might be early in your career by the calendar, but not in output. You've built and shipped things, side projects, open-source contributions, startup experiments, freelance work, that demonstrate you can go from idea to production. You care about quality, but you know that shipping fast and measuring is how you learn what quality actually means for users. You're not intimidated by working alongside staff and principal-level engineers. You know you have things to learn from them-deep architectural thinking, domain expertise, battle scars from systems at scale. But you also know you have something to teach: how to wield AI tools to ship 10x faster without cutting corners. That exchange excites you. You experiment compulsively. You measure obsessively. You learn fast and apply what you've learned immediately. You'd rather ship something imperfect and iterate than perfect something nobody's using. Your Impact Reporting to our CTO Chen, you'll be our first early career AI engineering hire-and that means you'll help define what AI-first engineering looks like at 5D. You'll work alongside staff and principal-level engineers who'll stretch your architectural and domain thinking, while you push the team's velocity and AI tooling practices forward. You'll own real features end-to-end, shipping to enterprise customers. Day to Day, You Will Ship features to production multiple times a day, using Claude Code, Codex and AI-augmented workflows as your primary development approach Own features end-to-end: from understanding the customer problem, through implementation, to deployment and measuring impact Build and evolve our AI intelligence platform-from agentic workflows and evaluation infrastructure to the UI/UX that puts AI capabilities in customers' hands Experiment rapidly-prototype approaches, measure results against our evaluation framework, learn from the data, and iterate Pair with staff and principal engineers who bring deep domain and architectural expertise, while showing them new ways to leverage AI tooling for speed and quality Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Customer Success Managers, and Solutions Engineers to stay rooted in what customers actually need Contribute to our engineering culture by sharing what you learn about AI-first development workflows, prompting techniques, and tooling Write code that's clear, tested, and maintainable-speed without quality isn't speed, it's debt Our Values and Engineering Culture At 5D, we embody three core principles: Own it, Ship it, and Don't be boring. Our engineering team values: Product-Minded Engineering: Understanding the "why" behind features and using technical expertise to inform product decisions Intellectual Honesty: Backing discussions with data and acknowledging knowledge gaps Effective Time Management: Setting clear timeboxes and abandoning approaches that aren't working Clear Communication: Writing self-documenting code and providing detailed explanations Innovation Mindset: Forming well-reasoned opinions backed by data and continuously learning Personal Growth: Supporting your development through challenging work and opportunities to expand your expertise Having Fun: We're building something extraordinary across three of the world's most exciting cities. We take the work seriously, not ourselves What We're Looking For We don't care about years of experience or specific degrees. We care about what you've built, how fast you learn, and how you think. Show us your work. Demonstrable experience shipping software-personal projects, open source, freelance, startup, or professional. The context matters less than the output. Fluency with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex) as part of your daily workflow, not as an occasional novelty Strong programming fundamentals, particularly in Python and TypeScript-but we welcome experience in other languages and architectural paradigms too. You should be able to read, reason about, and debug code that AI helped you write. A portfolio or body of work that shows velocity and quality: things you've built, shipped, and ideally that people have used Comfort with rapid experimentation: you prototype fast, measure outcomes, and aren't precious about throwing things away Intellectual curiosity and honesty-you dig into problems, share what you find (including failures), and ask for help when you need it Clear communication: you can explain what you built, why, and what you'd do differently Ambition and resilience-we're tackling hard problems at the intersection of AI and real estate, and you want to grow with us Nice to Have (But Not Required) Experience contributing to open-source projects Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) or infrastructure tooling Past exposure to real estate, law, or finance domains Experience building or fine-tuning with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) A blog, Twitter/X presence, or community contributions that show how you think about AI-first development Why This Role Is Different Most early career roles put you in a box: fix bugs, write tests, shadow seniors for six months before touching anything real. This isn't that. You'll own real features from day one, shipping to enterprise customers across the US, EU, and APAC. The guardrails are the staff and principal engineers around you and a culture that values measurement over ego-not a months-long onboarding gauntlet. You'll be surrounded by staff and principal-level engineers who've built systems at scale, know the commercial real estate domain deeply, and will challenge your thinking in ways that make you better. In return, you'll challenge how fast they think things can be built. That two-way exchange is exactly what we're optimising for. There's also the opportunity to travel between our London, New York, and Singapore offices-three epicentres of global real estate. It's not for everyone, but if you're excited by the idea of working across cultures and cities, it's a genuinely unique part of what we offer. What We Offer You Up to £120,000 (London/Singapore) / $200,000 (New York) + meaningful equity on a standard vesting schedule. Our benefits are localised to your city-designed so you don't have to worry about living your life in a big, expensive, exciting place. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point. Where and how you can work The buzzing Canva London campus features several buildings around beautiful leafy Hoxton Square in Shoreditch. While our global headquarters is in Sydney, Australia, London is our HQ for Europe, with all kinds of teams based here, plus event spaces to gather our team and communities. You'll experience a warm welcome from our Vibe team at front of house, amazing home cooked food from our Head Chef and a variety of workspaces to hang out with your team mates or get solo work done. That said, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals and so you have choice in where and how you work. Job Description At Canva, our mission is to empower the world to design. We're building AI that feels magical and lands real impact for millions of people - helping anyone create with confidence. We're looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to own the data foundations that power our multimodal agent research-building the pipelines, datasets, and tooling that turn ambitious research ideas into trainable reality. About the team We explore multimodal agentic architectures, build scalable training and evaluation loops, and partner closely with product and platform teams to turn breakthroughs into delightful product features. We are a cutting-edge post-training team, developing new multimodal agentic systems. We work on all topics of multimodal modelling, post-training and design agents, we build scalable training and evaluation loops, and partner closely with product and platform teams to turn breakthroughs into delightful product features. About the role You'll be responsible for the data lifecycle that fuels our agent research: from collection and curation through to preprocessing, quality assurance, and delivery into training pipelines. You'll work closely with research scientists to understand what data is needed, then design and build the systems to make it happen-reliably and at scale. You'll have significant autonomy over how data problems get solved, while aligning on what problems matter most with the broader team. What you'll do Design and build data pipelines for agent training: collection, filtering, deduplication, formatting, and versioning across text, image, and multimodal sources. Build and maintain infrastructure for efficient data loading, storage, and retrieval at scale (S3, distributed systems, streaming pipelines). Collaborate with research scientists to translate research requirements into concrete data specifications, and iterate as experiments reveal new needs. Create evaluation datasets and benchmarks in collaboration with researchers-curating task distributions that surface real failure modes. Develop tooling for dataset construction-including human annotation workflows, synthetic data generation, and preference data collection for RLHF/DPO-style training. Own data quality: build validation frameworks, monitor for drift and contamination, and establish standards that make datasets trustworthy and reproducible. Document datasets thoroughly: provenance, known limitations, intended use cases, and versioning history. Implement comprehensive test coverage for data pipelines and ML workflows, ensuring reliability and catching regressions early. Elevate codebase quality through code reviews, refactoring, and establishing engineering best practices that help research velocity scale sustainably. Contribute to team roadmaps by identifying data bottlenecks and proposing solutions that unblock research velocity. You're likely a match if you have Strong software engineering skills in Python, with experience building production-grade data pipelines and ML DevOps. Practical experience with prompt engineering-designing, testing, and refining prompts for reliable LLM/VLM outputs. Experience with ML data workflows: large-scale data processing and loading (Ray, or similar), data versioning, and format considerations for training (tokenization, batching, sharding). Hands-on experience working with data pipelines for large-scale distributed ML training runs. Familiarity with annotation tooling and human-in-the-loop data collection (Label Studio or internal systems). Understanding of ML training requirements-you know what "good data" looks like for LLM/VLM fine-tuning and can anticipate downstream issues. Experience loading and writing large datasets to/from cloud infrastructure (AWS) and distributed storage systems. Strong communication skills: you can work with researchers to scope ambiguous problems and translate needs into actionable plans. A collaborative approach, comfortable taking ownership and iterating quickly. Nice to have Experience with preference data collection for RLHF or reward modelling. Familiarity with multimodal data (image-text pairs, video, design assets). Experience building synthetic data generation pipelines using LLMs. Background in data quality metrics and monitoring systems. Contributions to dataset releases or benchmarks in the ML community. Additional Information What's in it for you? Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. Here's a taste of what's on offer: Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally Check out for more info.
