Job Description

The Role

As a Cloud Engineer, you'll design, build and operate scalable, reliable cloud-native infrastructure and platform services. You'll work closely with software engineers, architects and delivery teams to develop reusable platform capabilities, improve developer workflows and implement modern DevOps practices.

This role is suited to engineers who enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges, automating software delivery and creating platforms that empower development teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build and operate scalable, secure cloud-native infrastructure and platform services.
  • Design, implement and optimise GitLab CI/CD pipelines and build and release workflows.
  • Build, test and maintain reusable GitLab CI/CD Components that can be adopted across multiple engineering teams.
  • Deploy, manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters and containerised workloads.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code and automation solutions using modern DevOps practices.
  • Improve developer experience by delivering platform capabilities, automation and self-service tooling.
  • Contribute to Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), including technologies such as Backstage or similar developer portals.
  • Write clean, maintainable automation, including complex modular Bash scripts with reusable functions.
  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests for platform tooling and automation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, security and operational excellence.
Skills and Experience

We're looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience in most of the following:

  • Designing, building and operating cloud-native infrastructure and platforms.
  • Designing, implementing and optimising GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
  • Recent experience building and supporting reusable GitLab CI/CD Components for multiple consumers.
  • Hands on Kubernetes experience, including deployment, scaling, cluster operations and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, automation and DevOps best practices.
  • Experience improving developer experience through platform engineering or developer enablement initiatives.
  • Exposure to Internal Developer Platforms (such as Backstage) or developer self service tooling.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests across a range of programming or scripting languages.
  • Strong Bash scripting skills, including modular, reusable scripting techniques.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem solving skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience supporting enterprise scale engineering platforms.
  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring and platform reliability practices.
  • Experience working within secure or regulated environments.
