Full Stack Tech Lead - TypeScript, React, AI tools - start-up

c£85-100k + discretionary Bonus

Very high growth (>200% CAGR) online retailer, a start-up in its infancy, is seeking an experienced Tech Lead, crucially a technically hands-on individual contributor to own the technology stack and guide the small engineering team.

You'll be directly responsible for shipping critical code, while also mentoring other engineers, driving technical strategy, and ensuring the platform scales with rapid international growth. They deploy multiple times per day, and you'll need experience in a similar environ. Tens of thousands of customers rely on the code working instantly and reliably.

Further, you will be a key partner to the founders, translating business goals (eg US expansion) into a clear technical roadmap and high-quality, high-velocity execution.

Requirements:

• Strong experience across the stack: TypeScript, React Native, React, Node, Postgres, GCP/Firebase.
• A genuine full-stack mindset: happy working in the mobile app, web apps, backend, and writing SQL when needed.
• Confident writing efficient, production-ready code - fast, reliable, observable, and easy to maintain.
• Comfortable with a high-pace release culture (multiple deploys per day).
• Product-focused, enabling you to empathise with users and steer feature development.
• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in a fast-moving startup or product-led environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and ability to work in GMT-friendly time zones.
• Deep practitioner of AI-powered SWE tools (Cursor, Windsurf, v0, etc.) and excited to push productivity to the limit.

Crucially, you will be able to translate the product goals and strategy into technical details by working well with founders, marketing team and product; manage your time effectively between managing other dev's output and still being a strong individual contributor; be technically strong in order to make sure the full stack is robust with minimal outages, bugs/ errors etc.

What our client is building:

• Mobile Apps: their core customer apps where members buy the product (TypeScript, React Native, Expo)
• Backend: (TypeScript, GCP/Firebase Cloud Functions, GCP Pub/Sub, Postgres, Prisma)
• Web Apps: Customer-facing sign-up and account management portals. (TypeScript, React, Vercel)
• Internal ERP: their 'mission control' for managing stock, customers, and operations. (TypeScript, Next.js, Vercel)

Key upcoming projects include:

• Building out US infrastructure and mobile applications
• Full mobile application UX overhaul
• Launch of web applications for users

This is an inflexion point for the business. The successful applicant will be pivotal in shaping the product and overall business, working closely with marketing - including providing feedback 'on the fly' - and customers. The work is exceptionally varied. You will be self-driven, used to taking ownership of your work, be motivated by the need to work hard! It is probable that you will have strong experience of a broadly similar position and enterprise.
