Environmental Test Engineer
The main focus of this role is the preparation of our products in representative test systems, performing the tests internally or attending them externally, and producing reports of the tests carried out. Currently, the environmental tests include shock & vibration, temperature and EMC, but could include others in the future, as the needs of the business change. Some of the testing will require travel to other locations off site and possibly overnight stays. The Mechanical/Thermal Engineers provide key design inputs to the electronics hardware team, and are also very involved in the verification stages of product development, as well as providing on-going support to the design teams in all three countries and to the UK production team. Environmental Test Engineer
The main focus of this role is the preparation of our products in representative test systems, performing the tests internally or attending them externally, and producing reports of the tests carried out. Currently, the environmental tests include shock & vibration, temperature and EMC, but could include others in the future, as the needs of the business change. Some of the testing will require travel to other locations off site and possibly overnight stays. Flexibility in working hours is also required, with early starts, late finishes and some weekend working required.
The role typically but not exclusively involves the following:
Preparation of a representative test system including determining a suitable chassis, back-plane, test fixtures and other connectivity to allow a representative set of the functionality to be exercised. Software will be required to achieve the latter and creation or modification of software test scripts would be expected
Some problem diagnosis and problem solving resulting from the environmental tests would be expected.
Responsibility for ensuring that the environmental tests are performed according to the specification required.
Maintaining accurate and correct test records and test reports to a quality level acceptable for potential customer distribution. This shall include some product packs for ruggedised products.Mechanical Engineer
Office-based in Colchester, Essex, you will work closely with our electronics, board layout and other mechanical and thermal engineers at all the different stages of board development, for both rugged and more benign environments. Our design team operates in a small company environment which means that most design are completed by an individual engineer. As a result, each engineer rapidly becomes involved with all aspects of the product design and development. Short design timescales are an important part of our development strategy, which also results in our engineers being involved in many different product designs quite quickly.
Essential Skills / Experience:

Qualifications Candidates should have an engineering qualification to degree/HND/HNC level, be able to demonstrate practical experience of some functional or environmental testing of computer-based equipment, and have an electronic hardware bias. They are expected to be familiar with some or all of the following:
Building and configuring computer systems from parts (e.g. motherboard, data storage, cooling, power supply).
Understanding computer systems at a functional level.
Installing and configuring Windows and Linux operating systems and drivers.

The Job
The Mechanical/Thermal Engineers provide key design inputs to the electronics hardware team, and are also very involved in the verification stages of product development, as well as providing on-going support to the design teams in all three countries and to the UK production team. Among the engineerÃÂs responsibilities are the following:
Designing, developing and testing mechanical parts for our products and for fixtures and other items used in-house.
Designing, developing and testing thermal solutions for both convection and conduction cooled products.
Liaising with the hardware and PCB design engineers to agree optimal layout and construction of the boards.
Simulating and analysing thermal performance of the products, and implementing any necessary corrections.
Thermal and mechanical testing of new products and components.
Developing and improving our mechanical and thermal design procedures and practises.
Maintaining awareness of new technologies.
Qualifications:
Candidates should ideally be engineering graduates in a relevant discipline, but consideration will be given to those who have significant appropriate experience without this qualification. They must be able to demonstrate practical involvement in the design and development of electronic product packaging, and should be familiar with some or all of the following:
SolidWorks for mechanical design.
CFDesign or Flotherm for thermal analysis and design.
Small component mechanical design, with particular regard to tolerancing.
Designing thermal solutions for both convection cooled and conduction cooled electronic products.
Analysis of thermal characteristics at component level, and at board level in excess of 60W.
General production machining processes.
In addition to technical skills, the candidate must be independent and self-motivated but also be able to interact with other engineers both locally and overseas.
